In plain language

The short version

We collect only the information needed to respond to inquiries, send the newsletter, operate the website, and fulfill purchases if digital products are offered. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

01

Scope of this policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through desertwindscounseling.com and related pages operated by Desert Winds Counseling (“we,” “us,” or “our”). It does not govern another website or service that we link to.

i

Website privacy is not clinical privacy

This policy is not a HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices and does not replace the notices, consent forms, or agreements provided to therapy clients. Clinical and billing records created as part of care are handled under those separate documents and applicable law.

02

Information we collect

The categories depend on how you choose to use the site.

Contact inquiries

Your first and last name, email address, phone number if provided, and the message you submit.

Newsletter signups

Your email address, subscription status, signup date, and a general signup source such as the homepage or an event link.

Orders and support

If products are offered, we may receive your contact information, order details, transaction status, and customer-support messages. Payment processors handle full card details directly.

Technical information

Our hosting and security providers may process an IP address, browser and device details, requested pages, timestamps, and similar server-log information needed to deliver and protect the site.

!

Please keep sensitive details out of website forms

The general contact and newsletter forms are not emergency or clinical communication channels. Please do not include diagnoses, treatment records, Social Security numbers, payment-card details, or other highly sensitive information. If you include health-related details in an inquiry, we use them only to evaluate and respond to that inquiry and as otherwise required by law.

03

How we use information

  • Respond to questions and consultation requests.
  • Send Notes from the Desert and honor unsubscribe requests.
  • Process, deliver, and support digital-product orders when offered.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and protect the website.
  • Keep appropriate business and transaction records.
  • Comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect people and property.

04

When we share information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose it only as reasonably needed for the purposes in this policy, including to these categories of recipients:

  • Website and form providers. Netlify hosts the site and processes website form submissions.
  • Newsletter providers. Supabase stores subscriber and delivery records, and Amazon Simple Email Service sends newsletter messages.
  • Payment providers. Stripe or another provider may process a purchase if products are offered. Its own privacy terms apply to information it collects directly.
  • Professional advisers and authorities. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to obtain legal, accounting, or security assistance; comply with law or valid legal process; or protect rights, safety, and property.
  • Business transitions. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, reorganization, financing, or sale of all or part of the practice, subject to appropriate protections.

05

Your choices and requests

You may ask to review, correct, or delete personal information collected through the website. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information when required for legal, safety, accounting, or operational reasons. To make a request, use the contact details below and write “Privacy Request” in the subject line.

You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in any newsletter. We keep a minimal suppression record so an unsubscribed address is not accidentally added back to future sends.

We do not sell personal information. Nevada residents may nevertheless use the same contact method for a verified request concerning the sale of covered information.

06

Cookies and cross-site tracking

We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics on this website. We also do not knowingly allow third parties to collect personal information about your activity over time and across unrelated websites from pages we control.

A linked service, including a payment checkout page, may use cookies or similar technology under its own privacy policy. Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not standardized; because we do not use behavioral advertising on this site, we do not respond differently to those signals.

07

Retention and security

We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including to respond to an inquiry, maintain an active subscription, support an order, keep required records, resolve a dispute, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary by the type of record and applicable requirements.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information involved. No website, email, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please use care when deciding what to submit online.

08

Children’s privacy

This website and its newsletter are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information may contact us to request its deletion. Services provided to minors are governed by separate clinical and legal requirements.

09

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website or our practices change. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
